About Me

Hola!

I'm Dana Nichols, tax accountant turned sailor, out exploring the world one race at a time!  I'm from Los Angeles, CA and have spent the last nine years working for a large public accounting firm.  After being "married" to my job for so long, I've decided to take a break in search of something different...

As long as I can remember, I've wanted to spend my birthday wakeboarding.  So for my 30th birthday, I planned a trip with some friends to go explore the lakes outside of Austin, TX.  It was during this trip that I first heard about the Clipper Round the World Race.  My friend's aunt, the infamous Linda McDavitt, was in the process of signing up and there was much talk and excitement about the sailing race!  The race was comprised of 8 legs around the world, where twelve 70 foot yachts race against one another for the glorious first place yellow flag. (Yep, that is about all you get plus BRAGGING RIGHTS!!)

As someone who loves to travel and try new things, this sounded like an amazing opportunity to me.  After returning home, I started researching the race and connected with Linda to find out more information.  In no time, I interviewed, was accepted and booked my Level 1 training course in the UK!  Several months and tough decisions later, I am fully committed to take part in the race of a lifetime!

This blog details my adventures out on the vast open sea and all the stops in between!  Race starts on August 30, 2015 out of St. Katherine's Docks in London, UK.  After that point, I will be publishing posts once I reach port at the end of each leg...Go Team Huw or newly named, "Visit Seattle" Crew!
